The 1955 rockabilly dress pattern is a great beginner style, due to the reduced use of seams. The dress is made with minimal seaming in 2 pieces with kimono sleeve cut-in -one, while darts hold fullness in at waist.  A facing is used for the collar and cuffs for the sleeve. Sleeve is short or bracelet length. Length is midi. A Canadian Mail-Order Pattern from Edith Adams’ Cottage Homemakers’ Service.

USE

This is a tissue paper pattern for recreating the styles shown on the pattern sheet. The original pieces are perforated tissue paper and should be handled with care. The sheet has front & back view sketches of the styles, material useage charts, cuttig charts, the measurement chart of the company, pattern piece guide & step-by-step project plan. The information sheet also shows a general process of construction with sewing tips for hems & finishings. In order to recreate a style you will need to purchase your material, notions and anything you might need for embellishing. To test the fit before using expensive fabric, purchase muslin & recreate the style in a basic version. It is advisable to make a paper copy when resizing or altering the design.

CARE

  • For small tears, use archival tape or a glue stick & tissue paper.
  • Store the pattern in its protective sleeve or bag to reduce breakage and further discoloring.
