simplicity 4873; ©1943; miss 14: shirtwaist dress pattern. this simplicty dress, although a classic 40s shirtwaist with patch pockets, has a soft look to it, due to shoulder gathers. this unused pattern makes a great day dress. it also offers instructions for creating a detachable collar, bound buttonholes, ruffle inset trim and a self-fabric belt.
the dress waist is gathered to a forward shoulder seam and the skirt front is styled with an inverted pleat. style I features shaped patch pockets through which the purchased belt is drawn. detachable contrasting collar and cuffs finish the dress. a self-ruffle outlines the collar and pockets of style II. style III has a collar and no pockets. choose long, three-quarter or short sleeves.
